Art Class 01 : High School

i loved my highschool art classes so much. the teacher let us have so much freedom in our projects. we had certain elements that had to be incorperated into the drawing, but otherwise we were free to use our creativity. why couldn't my college classes be this cool?

Fushigi Yuugi: Amiboshi

c. fall 1997

watercolor

i loved the original Fushigi Yuugi image, so i tried to make my own version of it. it didn't come out great, but it does have some neat effects. i discovered the fun you can have using salt on watercolors.

Fushigi Yuugi

c. fall 1997

oils

another sight-copy from Fushigi Yuugi. have i mentioned how much oils suck to work with?! but do they ever give great results! the pic is decent. the background is boring, but i like how his face came out alot.

Evangelion: Kaoru-kun and Shinji-kun

c. fall 1997

color-pencils

a sight-copy from one of my favorite Evangelion images. the colors are a bit faint, but i really love how this pic came out. i think i really was able to capture the Sadamoto style well.

Ranma 1/2: P-chan paper cuts

c. fall 1997

paper slips

a completely original P-chan pic. this pic is made entirely out of colored paper.

Ranma-chan

c. spring 1998

acrylic

one of two, a sight-copy of a well-known Ranma 1/2 pic. the face sucks. i drew her right eye too big, and too far over. but i love how the colors came out, and the flowers rock.

Akane

c. spring 1998

acrylic

the second of two, a sight-copy of a well-known Ranma 1/2 pic. the coloring and leaves suck, but the face on this one came out so well. ah well, it was fun to do these pics together.

Clamp's RG Veda

c. 1997-1998

tempra

i used several images from the RG Veda manga as the basis for this image. my assignment was to paint using tempra an "album cover". the only requirements was the size of the painting (12x12) and that it had to be painted with tempra. i hate tempra. it's like a crappy version of acrylic. the kanji came out really sucky, because i didn't know how to write in kanji at that time. the shaded skin is kinda ucky, but i like the highlights in her hair, and her eyes are really captivating.

i had to crop the image a bit when scanning it.

Sailor Saturn

c. 1997-1998

water color

a sight-copy from the manga. the arms are too long. i crapped out on the background. i do like how her hair came out. this pic actually inspired my drawing of Hunter, which graces my page as my banner.
