Description: Faerie is a very broad term encompassing a variety of fairy type creatures in different regions of the world. Viola is most like what many would consider a pixie, but also has many features associated with flower fairies, such as a deep connection with nature, especially flowers. There are some who would call her a butterfly fairy because of her large butterfly-like wings. And still others would term her a woodland fairy since she calls the woodlands her home. She doesn't mind any of these terms, but the easiest way to insult Viola is to call her a Brownie, since Brownies are drab house fairies - a rather homely sort of brown fairy. The confusion is not entirely unfounded though, as Pixies will sometimes do the job of a Brownie, moving into a house and will helping with domestic chores. And Viola an example of a Pixie that has done just that, moving into Kestrel and Peregrine's hunting cabin in the Borderlands. As a 'solitary' fairy type, Viola is not part of the Seelie Court, but she does acknowledge Queen Ana (from the queen of the Keshalyi Fairies of the Romany Gypsies) as her queen.

Like all fairies Viola's is a somewhat ambivalent nature. A fairy's presence brings blessings on those who are fond of them but they are also known for mischief and occasional malice. Pixies reward consideration and punish neglect, and will be certain to play malicious tricks if insulted or ignored. Viola especially can be prone to tantrums if her housework is criticized. And if she ever gets bored, she resorts to usual sort of fairy tricks of stealing or hiding small items or other sorts of pranks. She doesn't (usually) mean harm with her pranks, unless her temper has been teased. Fortunately Kestrel and Peregrine appreciate her other skill, that of leading travelers astray. Thus, Viola inadvertently helps them protect their hunting cabin by keeping anyone but themselves from finding it.

Viola is very passionate. She loves nature, and beauty. Some may call her shy, as she can be extremely leery of strangers and, like many fairies, is particularly skilled at hiding. Magic certainly helps her hide. Fairies are known for their ability to disguise the true appearance of things (e.g. fairy gold that is often just leaves, berries, or useless trinkets). Just a bit vain, Viola is also prideful, capricious and willful. She is quick to judge, but fairies can truly see the darkness or greed in someone's soul (and will react accordingly).
