World: The Elven Lands

The kingdom of the Wood Elves inhabits the space where the mountains meet the plains. Wood elves are closer to nature than High Elves, though are considered to be less refined as a result. They think the High Elves are stuck-up though so they're likely even. The Wood-elf city is built into the sheer rock faces of the cliffs along the valley that is the safest (and pretty much only) pass through the mountains to the kingdoms beyond. It serves as the watch point, a fortress guarding the Kingdoms beyond, though few civilized peoples actually cross the mountains. (Envision something like the adobe cliff cites in the Southwest, but in grey marble/granite type stones and less square/blocky).

The Elves have built portals, arches that when passed through allow the individual to cross into another place, distant from the other side of the arch. The Wood Elf Kingdom is really a defensive fortress protecting the kingdoms beyond the mountains from the Borderlands. The forests and plains beneath the Wood Elf city are a place where the barrier between dimensions is weak, and it is easy to pass from one dimension into another. This means that creatures from other dimensions are able to cross into their world from other places, and use their land to cross from one dimension to another. The Wood Elves scout the Borderlands and hunt for creatures that pass into their world from other places (and sometimes track creatures into other dimensions).

The high elf city, simply known as The City in elvish, is the home of the Queen of the (High) Elves. It is a city of magic and beauty, with portal-arches connecting The City to the various reaches of the civilized world (including one gate that leads to the Fortress City of the Wood Elves).
