When I first saw BJDs I thought they were neat, but didn't need to have my own. When Akiko got some, I thought they were cool, but didn't need my own. But ultimately I decided that photo story telling with BJDs would be a great way to express a set of characters that I have had in my head. And then I found the Angell-Studios dolls who matched nearly perfectly my idea of what those characters looked like and I was hooked. I ordered all three back in January 13, 2009 (RIGHT before AS went on their holiday break). Exactly 10 weeks after I ordered my dolls, DDE gave me notice that my dolls were shipping to me. I figured it would be a few more days, so I was completely flabbergasted to find two large boxes waiting for March 26th. I totally skipped class and spent the afternoon getting their boxes opened, them dressed, changed into their default wigs/eyes, changed eyes around, changed wigs around, and took a ton of pictures while doing so.
Here is the story of my box-opening adventures:
The boxes. Who was paired together and who was alone? (Plum and Xen were together, and Gai by his lonesome, if you're curious).
Look at all those goodies!
The giant boxes of OMGPRETTY!!
Look at this gorgeous bag! The certifcate of authenticity is kept inside, but just in general it's a gorgeous bag. AS does nice bags.
Speaking of bags, these things are AWESOME.
Mummy-Gai, the cat-demon
Mummy-Xen, the exiled elf prince
Mummy-Plum, the human girl who found them.
Close-up of Mummy Plum
Close up of Gai's face. LOVE the gold in his eyelashes. He's a bit more youthful/girly/pretty than I thought, but it works. He's only 19 afterall.
De-mummified, the kids standing up (waita minute, why is Gai taller than Xen?!!)
And then Plum fell over. Into Xen's box. Is she hinting at something?
Safely SITTING back in their boxes. You can really see the difference in skin color here. Gorgeous!
POOF! and now they're in some underclothes. Gai is totally a boxers boy (when he's not going comando ^.^;; ) Xen is a boxer-briefs kinda guy, and Plum has several fun panty/bra sets. Yay for being a girl!
OMG is this shirt a bitch to get on! His hands are too big for the sleeve openings, so i have to remove his hand to get it on. AAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!
But damn if it isn't worth it when he's all dressed up. THIS is an elf prince!
And damn if I don't feel like a dirty old man, but she looks so cute all vulnerable like that!
And here are all the kids in their default eyes/wigs/clothes.
Getting them out of their defaults a little so I can get them into who THEY are, I've changed Gai's eyes and wig and added his cat ears (to be colored later), Changed Plum's eyes and wig, and Xen...well didn't have to do a thing to Xen (except eventually send him out to get elf ears).
Close-up. Gods I love the skin tones.
Close up of Gai, showing his red wig and some (borrowed) turquoise eyes. He'll get some red eyes eventually.
Aren't his boots totally kick-arse??
Close up of Xen. Isn't he pretty?
Plum blond wig 1. I decided this was too bleach blond for her and not quite right.
But this honey-blond was just perfect! Well, ok, a bit shorter and more punkier styling than I thought, but it'll work for now. (and yes, this is totally Gai's default wig)
The two boys
The love triangle

And how they sat behind me while I uploaded pictures and posted them on Den of Angels.
And that was my adventures in box-opening for my first dolls
