A Ranma 1/2 Fanfiction:

Shampu and Mousse - Jealousy

Part 2 The Rival

by li izumi

"Nihao!" A young Chinese woman entered the Cat Cafe.

Shampu barely lifted her head in response. "Ni. . . " Shampu did a double take, then screamed. "Aaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!"

Shampoo jumped over the counter and rushed to the other girl. "Perfume!! It you!"

Perfume, Chinese Amazon martial artist and friend to Shampoo, was the only other person, besides Mousse, who was Shampu's close friend. Since leaving China, Shampu hadn't seen Perfume for so long.

Cologne, in honor of Perfume's visit, allowed Shampu the afternoon off. The girls sat and began talking immediately of child-times, recent times, and all the times between. Soon the conversation turned to the reason of Shampu's stay in Japan.

"So have you been married yet?" Perfume asked.

"No yet. Ranma very stubborn." Shampu sighed.

"You mean he's a Casanova with three other girlfriends," Mousse grumbled as he bussed a nearby table.

"Kodachi no count!" Shampu called back to him.

"Fine then. He still has two others."

"Shut up Mousse." Shampu turned back to Perfume. "Ranma and Mousse very stubborn."

"Is it true that Ranma has two other fiancees? And you have allowed this?" Perfume was stunned.

"Shampu no allow. It just happen," Shampu bit out angrily.

"Still, you can't even control your future husband."

"Obaba can't either," Mousse pointed out.

Instead of being grateful for Mousse's save, Shampu got angry. "Shampu can take responsibility for own future husband."

"Well at least you can talk with authority." Perfume said.

"Shampu can do more then just talk."

"Shall we see?"

"If you want fight, you be sorry."

"Spare me your concern."

"Shampu no want fight child-friend."

"Is this the thoughts of the girl who is to lead our tribe? You should be willing to fight for your honor no matter who the opponent. No wonder you haven't gotten your husband yet."

"Enough!" Mousse angrily interceded for Shampu. "You don't know the circumstances, so who are you to talk about Shampu and Ranma? You apologize to Shampu or I'll..."

"Or you'll what?" Perfume's eyes narrowed as she challenged Mousse.

"Or I'll make you."

"Go ahead and try."

"Hen Egg Bomb!" Mousse attacked with smoke bombs. Perfume blocked, but wasn't prepared for Mousse's Cement Block Strike! She collapsed, utterly defeated.

Shampu, bored, hadn't paid attention to the fight. She suddenly sat up, stunned. "Mousse!"

Mousse, his normal clueless self, wasn't even fully aware of the consequences of what he had just done. "There, Shampu. She won't insult you again."

Perfume stood, walked over to Mousse. "Wo ai ne," she whispered as she kissed Mousse passionately.

Shampu stood, unsure of whether she was relieved or jealous. She was both.

Mousse pushed her away. "What are you doing?!"

"You defeated me. Now we shall marry!"

"No! I love Shampu! I must marry her!"

Shampu turned away, angrily, "Do whatever wish. Shampu no care."

"Shampu!"

The scene that Ranma and Akane saw as they entered was very weird, even by their standards. A strange Chinese girl was hanging on Mousse, who was reaching for Shampu, who was turned away from him.

"What is going on here?!" Akane exclaimed.

"Mousse defeat Perfume, Shampu friend from China," Shampu grumbled.

"That means Mousse must marry her!" Ranma felt weak. Shampu would be all over him with Mousse out of her way.

"I don't want her! I want my Shampu!" Mousse tried vainly to get Perfume off.

"It's useless Mousse. You'll never get her off. It's just like when Shampu glomps onto me. You'd have an easier time getting glue off." Ranma told the struggling man.

Shampu grinned wickedly. "Secret Amazon women technique: Lover's Grip. Very secret technique, passed down from mother to daughter."

"They're right Mousse. It's useless. You must marry Perfume or dishonor your family and yourself. It is our tribe's tradition." Cologne said as she came up behind the group.

"Wo ai ne!" Perfume pleasantly murmured.

"Shampu! If you defeat her, then I won't have to marry her!" Mousse pleaded.

"Shampu no want Duck-boy. Perfume can have."

"Besides, you must defeat Shampu first. The law you are thinking of Mousse, " Obaba pointed out. "Will only work if you have defeated two or more women. Then, the women must fight amongst themselves. You have not defeated Shampu."

"I want a rematch!"

That night, Mousse couldn't fall asleep. All he could think off was that he had to leave Shampu. And no matter what he did, he would be miserable.

Suddenly, Mousse felt something in his bed with him.

"Wo ai ne," a distinct female voice murmured.

The door to Mousse's room opened. Perfume was thrown out of the room, and then the door slammed behind her.

"And stay out!"

She got up, dusted herself off, then pouted at the door. So much for having a little fun with this. She then shrugged and bounced downstairs to see Cologne. There was much she needed to plan.

Shampu was looking at her old picture album. She looked at pictures of Mousse and her, childhood friends. She looked at pictures of Ranma and her, with Mousse in the background. She looked at so many pictures. Yet only one really caught her interest. It was a picture of when Mousse and her in their younger days. Mousse looked very happy, and so did she. She seemed to be showing off something, perhaps something Mousse had given her. Yet she couldn't make it out in the picture. Shampu found a magnifying lens and examined the picture closer.

"That it! But where Shampu put it?!"

After endless searching, Shampu found the object of her search. It was a small gold ring that Mousse had given her so long ago.

"Perfect! But needs a chain. Shampu no have one long enough. Perhaps Obaba do." With that, Shampu headed to her great-grandmother's room. The door was partially open, and light streamed out. "Good. Obaba awake."

Yet voices also filtered out, and Shampu overheard something that stopped her dead in her tracks.

"So everyone really thinks I was defeated by Mousse. I'm not sure whether to be glad they all fell for it or insulted that they all think Mousse could really defeat me."

"Perfume, this is only for now. I need Mousse out of Japan. He's gotten in the way of Shampu and Ranma too many times. One by one I shall get rid of the obstacles to their marriage. Mousse is just the first."

"But how long do I have to keep this up?" Perfume complained as she walked over to the full-length mirror across the room. She began to play with her hair as she continued, "I already have a fiancee."

"You have to do this long enough to get Mousse out of Japan and find his secrete scrolls. If it weren't for the fact that only Mousse's family knows the Hidden Weapons fighting techniques, I wouldn't allow them to remain in my tribe."

Perfume nodded, and was about to turn back towards Cologne when something caught her eye by the door. A small grin crept on her face. "And then?"

"Do what you will of him. I just don't ever want to see him in Japan or China again."

Perfume laughed. "Then maybe I'll finish him off permanately." She saw a quick movement behind her and smiled. The pieces were begining to fall into place.

Shampu ran outside, her thoughts running through her mind as she ran through the streets of Nerima.

They're going to kill Mousse. Not my concern though. I no love Mousse. Do I? He only friend. Isn't he? No need me. Mousse can handle self. Can't he? But if I don't warn him, he could die. Serve him right! He so foolish. I no care what happen. Don't I?

"Shampu so confused!"

She slumped against a wall and sighed. All other thoughts aside, Mouse was in trouble, and she needed to warn him. She couldn't just let him be killed.

But as she began her way back towards the Cat Cafe, Shampu saw two figures crossing the street a block down the road. Curious as to who would be up this late, Shampu hurried quietly over.

"Tell me again why we have to go back to China as this late hour?" A familiar voice grumbled.

"That's when the boat is schedualed to leave."

"But I want to stay with my Shampu!"

"But Darling! You defeated me in combate, you must marry me, or you will disgrace your name and family. Then you will be banished from the tribe."

Mouse sighed. He really had no choice. He would have to think of some way to get out of this marriage before they reached China.

Shampu continued to follow behind the two, believing herself to be unnoticed by both. Perfume led them to the harbor, where a small, dirty boat waited for them. She led Mousse aboard, and then made certain to distract the captain enough so Shampu could sneak aboard the boat.

As the boat drifted out across the Sea of Japan, Perfume felt confidant of the sucess of her plan. She made her way quietly towards the storage compartment, the only place, she was certain, that Shampu would be able to hide on the ship. She slid a small canister of gas inside and grinned wickedly. Shampu would never be able to smell the slow-killing gas. She would just silently drift off to sleep and never wake up.

"What are you doing here?" a voice spoke behind her.

Perfume nearly jumped through the cieling. "I.. I thought I heard a mouse," She said lamely.

The captain shrugged, unconcerned. He watched Perfume hurry off, and made his way back to his own compartment. He wasn't too supriced about mice on an old ship like this. Made him glad that he found this stray cat that wasn't afraid of the ocean. Pretty little thing. Sleeping on his bed at the moment, but in the morning, it would be up chasing the mice, he was sure.

Ranma and Akane sat at Ucchan's Okinomiyaki. Akane grumbled again about how unfair it was that Ranma was getting free food, and yet she had to pay. Ranma was eating ravenously.

Ukyou was leaning over the counter towards Ranma. "I don't normally see you after school like this. What's up?"

Ranma leaned over and whispered conspiratorily, "Akane made lunch."

Ukyou nodded understandingly. "And you still have an appitite?"

Akane fummed. "So I mixed salt with sugar. It's a mistake anyone can make!"

Ukyou wisely said nothing, Ranma wasn't as wise. "Even _I_ don't make a mistake like that!"

Akane hit Ranma with cold water. "And wouldn't you make a guy the perfect wife?" Akane sneered.

"What did you do that for?!" Ranma-chan yelled. Before the normal fight could continue, they group was interupted by a short form hoping over on a cane. "So this is where you are, Son-in-Law."

"Obaba," Ranma groaned. I DON'T need her today. "What do YOU want?"

"Have you seen Shampu?"

Ranma looked over at Ukyou and Akane. Both shook their heads. "No. Is something wrong?"

Cologne cursed. "Perfume and Mousse snuck out sometime during the night. I fear that Shampu has gone after them, and that she can be in grave danger!"

"What?!" The three girls exclaimed in unison.

And so, the three girls came to Kuno's house. Kuno, ecstatic to be asked to help such three lovely girls ("Ukyou?! You are in love with me too?!"), immediately agreed to bring the girls across the Sea of Japan to mainland China on his yatch.

So the group found themselves abroad Kuno's ship.

"Ah! Why must I man the oars?!"

"Oh Kuno! Darling! You wouldn't want any of your loves to get blisters, would you?" Ranma-chan purred.

"No, my pig-tailed goddess." Then Kuno began to mumble under his breath about that damned Susuke never being around when needed.

And already on mainland China, deep in the woods were...

"I didn't even get to say good bye to my Shampu."

"Don't talk about her. You have me now. By the way, where is the secret scrolls for your techniques? If I am to be your wife, I should know."

"You're not my wife yet, " Mousse pointed out.

"I will be soon."

Mousse didn't say anything to that. She was right. He was running out of time. He couldn't think of anyway out of the marriage, and there was no one who could rescue him.

Shampu stood by a the smouldering ashes of her recent fire. The large shirt she had managed to steal from the captain would work well enough for clothing. It hung loosely on her body, but was actually a little longer then some of the dresses she would normally wear. She was just glad to finally be in human form again. Still, she had lost a lot of time changing back. Mousse and Perfume would be far ahead of her now. She held up a small gold ring on a gold chain. "Mousse..." she whispered.

Then the ground beneath her erupted.

"Where on Earth am I now?!"
